Folks... it's been some time. I hope everyone is doing ok out there. The snooze button was hit, almost a couple of years ago now, to try and figure out if it was logistically and financially possible to continue this endeavour that's been cooking for pretty much 20 years at this point. The wild and dangerous and often bewildering combination of Brexit, the covid pandemic and general world affairs has made life quite tricky for many businesses and individuals, this much is obvious. Rather than plough on into the abyss and risk the label falling away into a pit of financial hardship I though it better to step back and take stock...
Some slow and serious organising and arranging has been going on here at Gizeh HQ recently. This, coupled with a return of stock from our distributor means we now have a bunch of long out of stock titles back in, but in very small quantities.
Well, it’s been some time I guess! It’s safe to say that this year hasn’t panned out at all as was planned back in January. In February I took the incredibly difficult but deeply thought out decision to step back from the label for the remainder of 2021 at least. No grand announcements, no fuss - just simply retreating to observe from the shadows for a while.
French composer and multi-instrumentalist Christine Ott returns to Gizeh Records for her fourth album ‘Time to Die’, the sequel to the highly regarded ‘Only Silence Remains’ (2016).
As we bid farewell to 2020 I wanted to send a message of appreciation to all of you who have supported us this year. Weirdly it's been one of the best years we've ever had in terms of sales and new folks discovering the label... so, a deep and heart-felt 'thank you' goes out to all of you.
Of Thread & Mist is the solo project of Richard Knox (A-Sun Amissa / Gizeh Records). Brought to life in 2020, it focuses on music composed by Knox then deconstructed and manipulated via hand-made tape loops, beaten-up 4-Tracks and modified cassette players.
